Brown Girl in the Ring!~

"Hey Brownin!" Sometimes when I hear this being called out to me in the street, I don't even want to respond as it evokes many negative images in my mind.. and memories I would rather not recollect!

"Hey Brown Gyal!, Red Gyal! Browning! Whitey! Half -cast, Yellow, Red skin, Red bone".. So many labels and yet, do they really think deeper than skin surface issues...

How important is the colour of my skin really?

And what does it alone, tell you about me, who I am really?

I have often thought that it really is overlooked a lot by most persons in the mainstream, and goes fairly unnoticed in a lot of cases. That we as mixed race, mixed cultured persons, don't really fit into any Racial group per se, and as such are often left feeling rejected, cast-out and alienated in a lot of places. A lot of the time persons just don't realise that we as a more difficult social group to define become socially ostracized and often times fall between the cracks, between the definitions that provide the basis for the boundary that differentiates between one social or racial group and another.

Often times "Brown" people actually face more rejection, more racist treatment than any other racial group. Because we don't just have to face this type of prejudice from one racial group, from our opposition, we face the prejudice from ALL other races, being unable to fit into any one exactly, means that we are not accepted fully by any of the racial groups. Mostly in my experience most "Brown", or mixed race persons will be placed with their Black/African/Caribbean relatives, however this does not mean that we are REALLY, FULLY accepted or that our own individual experience is comprehensible to them, even if we are in fact related by blood or otherwise...

In order to help facilitate greater understanding, to open a forum for discussion, debate and sharing of perspectives, I am launching THIS NEW Blog entitled BIO or Browning's International Org. 

Which may or may not form the basis of a future international Organisation and Support group for Mixed Race persons, and sufferers of Racial prejudice, hatred and abuse; who otherwise would not find a representative body or group to relate these specific issues to.
